                                                         New Hinthargone pagoda

New Hinthargone pagoda is located behind the Shwemawdaw pagoda.It was on this hillock that the Revd, U Kanti, the hermit-architect of Mandalay Hill and Shwesettaw pagodas, built the present pagoda with contributions from the general public.The hillock has come to be known as Hinthargone, the roosting place of the two mythical birds, and forms an importance landmark.

The legend of Hinthargone, a small mound on the eastern outskirts of the town,is that before Hantharwaddy (i.e Bago) and other places, which we now know as Lower Myanmar, appeared above the surface of the ocean.It was the point where land was first visible in the vast expense of water.A pagoda was built on the spot and the symbol of the pair of Hinthars (mythical birds) alighting one on top of the other, is explained by the fact that the pinpoint of the land was just enough  for one bird to land.While the male was touching the ground, the female bird landed on the back of the male.It is held that on account of this symbol, the Ladies of Bago have a hold on their husbands.It is said that anyone who marries a Bagoan girl is sure to be hen-peaked – believe it or not!

    ယခု လူအမ်ားဖူးေျမာ္ေနႀကေသာ ဟသၤာကုန္းေစတီေတာ္သည္ မူလဟသၤာကုန္း ေစတီေတာ္မဟုတ္ေပ။ မႏၲေလးၿမိဳ႕မွ ရေသ့ႀကီးဦးခႏၲီသည္ ၁၂၈၄-၈၅-၈၆ခုႏွစ္တြင္ ေရႊေမာ္ေဓာဘုရားအေရွ႕မုခ္ႏွင့္တည့္တည့္ က်ိဳက္ပ်က္ဘုရားငုတ္တိုကို ျပဳျပင္ကာ ဟသၤာကုန္းဘုရားဟုသမုတ္ကာ ေစတီတည္ထားျခင္းျဖစ္ပါသည္။
